During the previous funding periods we have discovered that the synaptic vesicle cluster regulates various aspects of synaptic physiology, by controlling the behaviors of soluble proteins and by modulating the local cytoskeleton. Now we aim to understand how this regulation is linked with synaptic biomechanics. We plan to investigate how the synaptic vesicle cluster influences membrane dynamics, as well as the mechanical forces generated during synaptic activity, in order to understand its intrinsic contributions to the mechanical properties of the presynapse.
