Many studies employing various ways of perturbation have shown that the synaptic cytoskeleton has an extremely important role in synapse formation, synaptic plasticity, and the dynamics of many synaptic organelles, such as synaptic vesicles. However, the exact distribution of cytoskeleton components and their interplay within synapses are essentially unknown. In this project, we will elucidate the localization and roles of these cytoskeletal elements by combining super-resolution microscopy with an analysis of live-cell dynamics.
