The molecular and structural elements that are responsible for presynaptic plasticity are still little known. To understand them, we compared during the first funding period two different types of synapses, Schaffer collateral and mossy fiber synapses, in resting conditions. We will now analyse the short- and long-term activity processes in these synapses, using a combination of mouse genetics, organotypic hippocampal slice cultures, high-pressure freezing, freeze-substitution, and electron tomography.
